The Illawarra Steelers defeated the West Tigers 50-6 in Round 2 of the Harvey Norman Women’s Premiership at Collegians Sporting Complex on Sunday afternoon.
The Weekend Wrap, brought to you by Steelers. Your home ground for entertainment.
The Steelers scored ten tries to one in a dominant display in attack and defence in their first home game of the season.
Second-row convert Olivia Vale set the trend for the afternoon, scoring in the opening minute before Steelers juniors Tori Shipton and Indie Bostock grabbed four-pointers on their club debut in the open grade.
Tries to Mia-Rose Walsh and Jordan Preston on the half-hour mark sent the hosts into the sheds leading 26-0 at the break.
The Tigers were first to strike in the second half through Cheyenne Baker five minutes into the second stanza.
But it was all Illawarra from then on, Jamie Szczerbanik’s troops continuing their impressive attacking display with five unanswered tries, including a second-half brace to Maria Paseka. Walsh and Shipton also picked up their second of the match.
The Steelers are at home again next week against the Parramatta Eels, who are coming off a 20-14 loss to the St George Dragons.
