The Butchers re-affirmed their aspirations for back-to-back titles with a 26-12 win over Wests at Parrish Park.
Scoring five tries to two, the Butchers reversed their first-round loss to the Devils, this time going on with the job in the second half after leading 10-6 at the break.
But it wasn’t before another late scare for Butchers coach Jared Costello after his charges led 20-6 with less than ten minutes remaining.
With Wests mounting a late rally, five-eighth Dane Chisholm put on a neat, right step to score adjacent to the posts to bring the Devils back into the game before a late try to Kristian Williams sealed the win for the visitors.

De La Salle defeated Corrimal 38-10 on a soggy Ziems Park after leading 14-10 at halftime. The Shire boys scored five unanswered tries in the second half to post their third win from four starts after last week’s loss to Dapto.
A Tobias Miller hat-trick helped Collegians to a 26-22 win over Dapto in a tense battle on Sunday afternoon.
The hosts raced out to a 16-0 lead after three tries in the first 15 minutes, including a brace to Miller, before the Canaries hit back with tries to Paul Roberts, Drew Nakken, and Ratu Camaisala to level the scores at 16-all early in the second half.
Collies edged in front 20-16 in the 60th minute when Miller crossed out wide for his third. With 10 minutes remaining, Camaisala’s second try put Dapto in front for the first time in the game before Blake Dowel charged over under the posts to secure the win.
